Sheikh Jassim to “offer” legends roles at the club if takeover successful

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani will offer legends from the Sir Alex Ferguson era the chance to return to Manchester United in key roles if his takeover is successful.

That is according to ESPN, who allege their sources have told them that the Qatari banker sees the lack of ex-players involved in the club hierarchy as an issue, and wants to remedy it and present United in a similar manner to the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, who employ several stars of the past.

It is the latest brief from the Qatari camp, which is no doubt looking to sway fans and garner support for their bid. It ties in with the creation of “The Foundation 92” which is an obvious play on the “Class of 92” and Jassim’s supposed long-time and manic support of United, although there is little proof of this.

Jassim’s primary competition for the ownership of United is Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, who may stay on with minority investment from a United States-based group, with Elliot Management, Ares, Sixth Street and Carlyle Group all registering interest.

The next few weeks are set to be fascinating at Old Trafford, with so much at stake both on and off the pitch.
