The cause of the Nerazzurri’s financial woes is partly down to their heavy spending in the last few transfer windows coupled with the financial strain the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the global economy.

The most notable example of splurging was the £74 million transfer of Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United in 2019.

The Financial Times have reported that the majority shareholders, Suning Holdings, have held talks with a number of parties but Inter have been unable to negotiate a deal.

The closest they came was a deal with BC Partners, a private equity firm, who walked away from negotiations after failing to come to an agreement on valuation.
