The former and legendary President of the GAA Sean Kelly took to his twitter on Sunday night to praise how good the league has been this year and asked for the phrase ‘it’s only the league’ to never be uttered again in GAA circles.
His dead right too, have a look at some of the comments below ..

A phrase @officialgaa should ban is ‘it’s only the League’ .If it’s ‘only’ the League, why are record crowds paying through the turnstiles, players getting into ‘schemozzels’, fans going onto the pitch to greet the victors & media giving so much coverage to games #allianzleague… pic.twitter.com/03o6WSRSiN

Look at Kerry getting beaten away to Mayo. The Golden Goose, the Championship, they’ll be playing Waterford or Limerick or something shite
Imagine how much better it would be if there was a gap after the finals & the winners got a tangible reward for winning it too
There needs to be a weekend off after the Allianz Football finals. Hopefully the weekend freed up by the new format for 2026 will allow for that.
Well then give the finalists a 2 week break to championship – it’s insulting to ask them to empty the tank in a National final and jump into championship 7 days later !
The GAA need to have a look at the schedule for league finals. The whole weekend for finals should be a showcase! But it’s impossible because of teams playing 6 days later. Have a 2 or 3 week gap between league & championship & you’ll see counties going all out for it.
Move the all Ireland finals back to the end of September, minor and senior football, and the hurling finals to the middle of September minor and senior as they should never have been moved in the first place.
