The former Limerick hurler Shane Dowling was on The Sunday Game highlights show last night and a lot of people online weren’t happy with some of his analysis of the Waterford vs Limerick game at Semple Stadium in Thurles. The All-Ireland winner has come under fire for his analysis of his fellow county man Séamus Flanagan.

Pass onto your bosses in the Sunday game
, no analyst should be covering their own county , it’s bringing the Sunday game down the drain.— noel walsh (@noelywalsh) April 23, 2023
No need for panellists from their own county to ever analyse those county's games. Very little benefit to it and usually there is some slant/bias to their viewpoint.

Really poor level of analysis on Sunday Game. Having a pundit analysing his own county, a team he played with a few years ago is ridiculous. S Dowling had an absolute mere but should not have been put in that position.

We’ve heard it all before when Kilkenny were winning everything!! What are people expecting from Munster championship?? It was a great game the ref sent off the right people. Yes Flanagan was lucky but the cynical fowling from Waterford backs was more or less ignored!

The analysis overall tonight was very poor. None done on the Tip v Clare game and the bare minimum done on the Limerick v Waterford one. There is a huge void in the market for a proper GAA analysis programme.

If Shane Dowling sets the actions of the member of the Waterford backroom team as "disgusting" then it will be interesting to hear what words he will use to describe the actions of his fellow Limerick men for the rest of the championship. #GAA #SundayGame

Very unbiased view from Shane Dowling on Seamus Flanagan's shoulder to the head of Stephen Bennett "it's part of championship hurling" 🤔 #thesundaygame

The Waterford vs Limerick game had a lot of talking points in the game, no doubt about it and it will be interesting what happens to come of the people involved. Wasn’t a good look for the game some of the stuff that happened, it was a cracking game of hurling and Waterford will feel they left a massive opportunity slip.
Ye I think it was very poor analysis on the Sunday game. I agree no panelists should be on from their own county. Rte should take note and let’s not have a bias view.
Big talking points from Limerick v Waterford. Bennett taking some “hits”. Struck on the helmet with a hurl and on the end of an elbow smasher. He’s the free taker – was going well so action taken. Following the pattern. Remember Bennett in All-Ireland v Limerick ? Taken out. Remember Joe Canning v Limerick, free taker, taken out. Were the same enforcers involved Sunday ? Limerick player smashes opponent off the ball and continues into Limerick technical area – contact by Waterford mentor but not on the field of play or even on the sideline. We don’t know what the verbals were but the Hegarty body language screamed nobody’s safe anwhere when I’m in town. But not everyone will run and hide when big Ger rampages. Same level of muscle not applied by Waterford. Maybe they thought the ref would intervene ? We have rules re foul play and sometimes we apply them and sometimes not.
Hey girls and guys can we calm down please. In my opinion Shane Dowling gave a clear and clever analysis of the game. Agree or disagree, that’s up to you. He said that the intervention of the Waterford mentor was “disgusting ” Agree or disagree, that’s up to you. I agree. He is correct in saying that hits like the one Flanagan made, are part and parcel of a hurling match. He did not say that this tackle was fair, but it happened on the pitch between two players and therefore up to the referee to decide. Finally, ” don’t have any panelists from the county involved “?? Silly. Shane Dowling did a great job. Ursula Jocob also but Ursula should have challenged Shane on all of the above. I’m free to give advice.
