Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Chelsea and Manchester United’s efforts to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
Saul has been a key figure in Diego Simeone’s squad for a number of years, but appears to be set to leave the Wanda Metropolitano before the end of the transfer window.
Several Premier League clubs have been mentioned in the conversation, with the Spaniard’s representatives seemingly attempting to drum up interest in their client.
Their efforts to do so appear to have been successful, with Fabrizio Romano now reporting that both Chelsea and Man United are working on signing him from the champions of Spain.
Saúl is set to leave Atléti.

BenchWarmers’ view
As for Chelsea, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are excellent options to choose from – but is it enough for the long season ahead? Perhaps not.
Signing Saul on loan, as has been proposed, would give both clubs the chance to have a closer look at him before deciding whether they want to make a hefty investment.
A move to the Premier League could also be the catalyst for the player’s revival, with Saul having performed below his usual standard last campaign.
It’s a deal that’d make sense for all parties – it’s just a matter of determining whether he’ll be heading to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.
