Saracens agree terms with Racing 92 for Owen Farrell return

Saracens have agreed terms with Racing 92 for Owen Farrell to return to the Premiership club.

According to The Telegraph, Saracens will pay a transfer fee of about €200,000 (£169,250) to allow the 33-year-old former England captain to be released a year early from his two-year contract.

Farrell has signed a five-year deal with his former club. He spent 16 seasons with them before moving to the Top 14 club last year.

The report claims that he will initially hold a player-coach position. This will allow him to play for at least the next two seasons.

After that, he will take on a full-time coaching role upon his retirement as a player.

His return to the Premiership for the start of next season would make him available to play for England again in time for the tour of Argentina and the United States next month.

Farrell has won 112 caps for his country, and he is England’s all-time leading points-scorer. It is unclear, however, whether he would be willing to play at the international level again.

His close friend, Johnny Sexton, played until he was 38 at the last World Cup. Therefore, Farrell could yet go on to feature at the next World Cup in Australia in 2027.
