Ryan Garcia knocked out Javier Fortuna on Saturday night to continue his bid to get back into world title contention.
After Garcia was crowned the WBC Lightweight champion of the world in January of 2021, he decided to take a break from boxing in order to focus on his mental health.
The American made his return to the sport back in April and tackled Javier Fortuna on Saturday night in order to continue shedding ring rust and rebuilding his credentials.
Ultimately, Garcia’s goal is to challenge for world titles once again, but he will want to be ready for the challenges when they eventually come, rather than jumping head first into them.

Last night’s clash with Fortuna provided a stern test for Garcia, but one which he overcame in flying colours, securing a sixth-round finish over the Dominican fighter.
Fortuna, who had already been knocked down previously in the fight, fell to the canvas and spat out his mouthguard, with the referee waving it off and handing Garcia the win.
