Roy Keane OUT of the running to become Sunderland manager – despite being offered job

Roy Keane is no longer in the running to be the new manager of Sunderland, according to The Athletic.

Keane, who has become a fan-favourite on Sky Sports since leaving his managerial career behind to partake in punditry, appeared to be on the verge of joining the Black Cats for a second time.

Sunderland are currently pushing for promotion in League One, with Keane thought to have all the necessary credentials to be a serious contender to take the job and return to management after a decade’s absence.

However, in a surprise turn of events, Keane is no longer thought to be an option for Sunderland. The Athletic report that he has exited the running, for reasons that are unknown at the time of writing.

The report notes that Keane was interviewed twice and was even offered the job, but the Irishman will not be joining Sunderland and will presumably continue his punditry career for the foreseeable.
