The son of Ronaldinho is set to follow in his father’s footsteps after signing for Barcelona.
Joao Mendes, 17, was on trial with the Catalan giants in January and the Spanish club have not hesitated in offering him a professional contract.
Mendes was previously at Cruzeiro of Brazil, however, he had his contract terminated by the club but it is safe to say Barcelona isn’t the worst landing spot after leaving another club.
Mendes is said to be more of a striker rather than an attacking midfielder but has still shown glimpses of skills that made his father so famous.
On his son’s move, Ronaldinho said: “Yes he is coming now. I’m never out of the club. Barcelona is part of life. Wherever I go I take Barcelona with me.
“With the arrival of my son at Barca I’ll be more present than ever.”
If Mendes can recreate even half the goal and assists numbers his father put up in Catalonia – and maybe even a Ballon D’Or or two – he will fit in just fine at the club.
