Paris Saint-Germain have opened talks over signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea this summer, according to But!.
When Lukaku re-signed for Chelsea for a reported £97m back in the summer transfer window, many believed it was the signing that they needed to become serious challengers for the Premier League title.
However, with Lukaku having fallen miserably short of expectations, the Belgian no longer starts for Thomas Tuchel, who instead opts to field Kai Havertz through the middle – and understandably so.
Especially in a World Cup year, it’s difficult to imagine Lukaku being prepared to warm the bench at Stamford Bridge, so his departure may already be a foregone conclusion, after just one year at the club.
According to French outlet But!, PSG are already in talks with Lukaku’s representatives over the possibility of bringing the Belgian to the Parc des Princes at the end of the season, perhaps as Kylian Mbappe’s replacement.
PSG are one of very few clubs on the planet who have the financial firepower to execute a deal with the likely finances that’d come with freeing Lukaku from Chelsea and meeting his wage demands.
Whether it will come to fruition remains to be seen, but this could be the perfect opportunity for Lukaku to rediscover his goalscoring touch and rebuild his reputation in the football world.
