Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he stopped talking to Frank Lampard because he was focused on ‘winning trophies’ at Manchester United.
The two Englishmen came up together at West Ham in 1999 and became an integral part of Harry Redknapp’s squad at the time.
But the defender revealed that when he moved to Manchester United and Lampard moved to Chelsea, contact broke down because of the rivalry.

‘It does [impact your friendships].’ Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
‘It is well documented Frank Lampard and I grew up together at West Ham. When he went to Chelsea and I went to Manchester United, we didn’t speak.
‘It wasn’t a conversation or a fallout, he was focused on winning as many trophies as possible and I was as well. It happens. Some relationships stay the same.
‘Even with Joel, we have become close now we have retired because we are not fighting over anything.’
Both players would go on to become legends at their own clubs and retire with countless amounts of trophies between them.
