Ring Magazine issue latest heavyweight top ten – and there’s one notable absentee

Ring Magazine have issued their latest heavyweight top ten – and there’s a rather notable absentee from the list.

Unsurprisingly, Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion of the world, is considered the number one heavyweight fighter by Ring Magazine.

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, two former heavyweight champions, sit just behind the Ukrainian fighter, with both fighters on the back of two defeats.

There are two more British fighters in the top five in Joe Joyce and Dillian Whyte… but WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury is nowhere to be seen on the list.

There is a legitimate reason for it, though, with Ring Magazine considering Fury to be retired and the Gypsy King having had to return the belt to them.

Fury will be considered retired until he fights again, at which point it will be intriguing to see where Ring Magazine would rank him, whether it be above or below Usyk.

Fury is no longer going to be fighting Joshua later this year, but he will be fighting again in December. It’s a highly-anticipated return that we can’t wait for.
