Referees want FA to ban players from coming within 2 metres of all officials

While referees as asked to police players obeying social distancing guidelines, the Mirror is reporting that representatives for referees say not enough consideration is given to officials.

Representatives have made a very valid point to the FA about players jeopardising the safety of officials in the Premier League’s attempt to stop the spread of Covid-19.

New guidelines come out every week to stop players from mingling with each other or even recent guidelines that advised against goal celebrations but no mention of staying 2 metres away from referees.

Refsupportuk said: “It would be brilliant if the FA could also state that players should not intentionally be within 2 metres of a match official.

“There is no reason whatsoever for a player to be intentionally that close to a match official.”

Do you think the FA will come to the aid of referees and linesmen to stop the crowding by players on a regular basis? It seems as if whenever any decision is made, players use it as an excuse to encroach on the referees space and attempt intimidation.

Officials have even reportedly been told to tell captains “the eyes of the world are on us and we need to set an example”.
