For the first time ever, a referee brandished a white card during the Sporting Lisbon vs Benfica derby on Sunday.
We are all used to yellow and red cards but now there is a new colour to look out for.
During the Benfica women’s game against Sporting Lisbon, the referee showed the new card to both teams’ medical staff. A player went down injured due to an illness in the first half and the medical team from the two sides arrived immediately to help her.
After they had resolved the problem, the referee brandished a white card to commend fair play.

This is part of a new programme to encourage and reward fair play in games.
This is just one of the many new rules being introduced to the game like concussion substitutions and longer stoppage time.
There are yet no plans for it in the English game but that could change.
Would you like to see it in the Premier League?
