(Video) Reece James scores embarrassing own-goal during Chelsea pre-season fixture

Chelsea defender Reece James scored a comical own goal during the Blues’ opening pre-season fixture.

Though James was drafted into the Chelsea first-team squad by Frank Lampard and had already established himself as a key figure prior to Thomas Tuchel’s arrival, it was during the last campaign that he really showed the potential he has.

Playing as a right wing-back, James was effective going forward and accomplished in his defensive third, sparking a debate as to whether he is a more rounded full-back than his compatriot Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We imagine that debate will be rolling on for many a year, which is why Liverpool fans would have been delighted to have seen his monumental cock-up during Chelsea’s pre-season fixture with America last night.

James attempted to play the ball into the path of his own goalkeeper but instead saw it roll all the way into the back of the net. He’ll be thankful to get this one out of the way during pre-season…
