Rafa Benitez Set To Be Replaced By Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid look set to replace Rafa Benitez with B team boss and club legend Zinedine Zidane the likely candidate to take the reigns.

L’Equipe’s front page on Wednesday morning suggests the Frenchman is “at the gates of the great Real Madrid” with Benitez one more loss away from the chop.

These reports have been picked up by the big Spanish papers, AS and Marca, who’ve both reported the story.

Benitez has now lost the confidence of the Real Madrid hierarchy and appointing Zidane as coach of the first team has been a long term dream of president Florentino Perez.

Rumours of the Spaniard’s demise at Madrid have been rife since the 4-0 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona in November.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Rafa and Madrid with scandal rocking Spain’s capital club.

Karim Benzema’s involvement in Mathieu Valbuena’s sextape scandal followed by their removal from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player haven’t helped.

Reports of player revolt has also been rife, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale all allegedly fed up Benitez’s inept tactics.

On the pitch, Real Madrid won five successive matches, including an 8-0 shellacking of Malmo after defeat to Barcelona, but the 1-0 loss at Villarreal this past Sunday appears to have cost Benitez his job.
