Qatar have become the first host nation ever to end their World Cup campaign without registering a single point.
Their fate was already known – two defeats in their opening two games meant that Qatar had already suffered the earliest exit of any host nation in the history of the competition. But, with the Netherlands still to play, Qatar had the opportunity to at least earn a point before being dumped out of the tournament. Goals from Gakpo and De Jong, however, helped the Dutch ease past Qatar and condemned the home nation to a pointless campaign.

In fact, Qatar are only the second-ever host nation to get knocked out of the tournament in the group stage, The first was South Africa in 2010, although they did at least manage to register a respectable four points and only missed out on the top two spots on goal difference.
