A Premier League footballer and his girlfriend were reportedly tied up in their own home by machete-wielding thugs over the international break.

A report by The Sun has revealed the details of the terrifying incident, while keeping the player’s identity under wraps.

The player’s £1.5m mansion was reportedly broken into while the Premier League pressed the pause button over the international break, with hoodlums, armed with machetes, thought to have dragged him around his house.

The player, along with his girlfriend, was tied up and held prisoner in his own home by intruders who are believed to have thought the player was away with his international team over the break.

Instead, having been left out of the squad, he was at home watching his national teammates in action on the tele while his partner was in the bath. He was, as a result, unfortunately present as the burglary took place.

The player and his partner will be understandably shaken up and his Premier League counterparts will too be left fearing what could happen to them or their families with these gangs on the loose.

This report comes after Chelsea defender Reece James had his property broken into in the middle of a Chelsea game. There is no real solution to the problem other than to identify the individuals and throw them behind bars.
