An “internationally renowned” Premier League player has been arrested on suspicion of rape, reports the Telegraph.

The player in question cannot be named in the report due to legal reasons, but it has been revealed that he is an international footballer and is in his late 20s.

Details on the incident itself are also scarce. It’s claimed that Scotland Yard took the player into custody early on Monday, but the alleged attack is said to have taken place last month.

There is now understood to be significant doubt over whether the player will be made available for this club’s upcoming pre-season campaign, following his arrest by the force.
