Premier League clubs fear Boris Johnson will impose Christmas lockdown restrictions

Premier League clubs are reportedly fearful that the country is heading into another lockdown over the Christmas period.

Premier League football was played behind closed doors for the best part of a year as COVID-19 ran riot in the country.

The vaccination programme and flattening of ‘the curve’ has provided fans with the opportunity to return to stadiums – but for how long?

As is reported by The Sun, clubs are once again fearing having their turnstiles forcibly shut by government restrictions.

The Omicron variant has seen COVID figures in the UK surge, intensifying suggestions that the government could impose further lockdown measures over Christmas.

Could COVID-19 be set to disrupt Premier League football once again?

Naturally, that would have an adverse effect on football, with tens of thousands of fans gathering in a stadium not likely to be permitted, were the country to close up once again.

As has been the case throughout the pandemic, things can escalate very quickly.

While fans are, as things stand, permitted to head to stadiums this weekend and throughout the Christmas period, there are absolutely no guarantees that will remain the case.
