A rather bonkers explanation for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing Arsenal’s clash with Southampton this afternoon is doing the rounds on Twitter.
Aubameyang’s finishing was wayward during Arsenal’s defeat to Everton midweek. That alone could have seen the Gunners skipper relegated to the substitutes.
However, he was not even named in the matchday squad by the manager Mikel Arteta for the tussle with the Saints, with the Spaniard having revealed there was a “disciplinary breach.”
While Arteta did not delve into the details, as you’d expect, there has been some talk on Twitter that Aubameyang skipped training in order to get a tattoo.
Aubameyang misses training -> Rumors could be that he’s unwell/ill -> Seen on IG getting another tattoo. Let me just get my sharpener out lol pic.twitter.com/xs0I5UYOcN

So Aubameyang skips training and misses tomorrow’s match to get a tattoo? And that is supposed to be my captain? 😥

Aubameyang missing training and a match and getting a tattoo then posting on his social media is worthy of stripping captaincy. He ain’t following by example on or off the pitch.

That is unconfirmed at this point in time so ought to be taken with a pinch of salt, but considering Aubameyang’s track record of behind-the-scenes antics, you wouldn’t be surprised.
Arteta has a real problem in the form of his underperforming captain, who is one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League. Is there another Mesut Ozil situation brewing?
