Ireland get their World Cup campaign underway against Canada on Saturday and have been boosted with the news that Cian Healy has been passed fit to play .
“He’s been in full training for the last two weeks and I’m delighted to report that he is available for selection at the weekend against Canada,” team manager Mick Kearney said today.
“I think the fact that he is available and is fit is a huge boost. Everyone is thrilled for him, because over the last 12 months between a couple of injuries and operations he’s been out of action for a very long time.
“He worked incredibly hard over the course of the three or four months.”
The decision Joe Schmidt faces now is whether to start the loosehead prop on Saturday.
His presence would be a huge boost and the player would benefit hugely from some game time. But, with bigger tests ahead in the group stages, should Leinster teammate Jack McGrath start this one, and keep Healy in reserve?
