BenchWarmers – Team Of The Decade

Posted by

Over the years there has been some truly amazing players that have graced the game in countless games, so choosing this XI was tough. But in the last 10 years, this is our dream XI.

Van Der Saar – Goalkeeper

A debateable choice with the likes of Neuer, Cech and Cassillas all in the running for the spot, but the Dutch shot stopper was in a different class at The Red Devils helping them to win the Champions League Final saving Anelka’s penalty against Chelsea back in 2008. Still going strong at 40 years old Van Der Saar retired as a Man United and Premier League legend.

Phillip Lahm – Right Back

Although the German legend has become a midfielder over the last few years, when at right back Lahm was the best around. Even the best player in the world Lionel Messi has said Lahm is the most ‘consistent’ player in football, and words from Messi should be listened too.

John Terry – Centre Back

Despite his quite stupid antics when John Terry keeps his mouth shut and is not hanging with someone’s wife, he is one of the best centre halfs in the world and the best in England. He played every minute of every game in this season and is still going strong. So JT takes our first CB position.

Alessandro Nesta – Centre Back

Partnering John Terry at the back is the Italian legend Nesta. Without a doubt he is right up their with the very best and holding the line with Terry would be a mouthwatering defence.

Ashley Cole – Left Back

Without a doubt the best English and possibly worlds best left back we’ve seen in a long time. As well as Terry some stupid antics like cheating on Cheryl Cole ruined his reputation but on the footballing side you cannot argue with the choice of Cole.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Left Midfield

Possibly the best player in the world and scoring 50 goals+ a season in the La Liga the Portuguese winger is without a doubt one of the best and a no brainier for the team. Being captain of Portugal brings leadership to our dream XI but I’m sure we have enough of that with our defenders.

Paul Scholes – Centre Midfield

No space for Xavi or Iniesta in the starting XI but their is room for the ginger pele they call Paul Scholes. The midfield masterclass never failed to make a pin point pass wherever it was needed on the pitch, and with most professionals calling Scholes they best midfielder of all time how could we not put him in?

Ronaldinho – Centre Midfield

The skillfull Brazilian is just unhateable and un-droppable. Although he may have dropped off in the Mexian league in the last decade he has certainly been one of the best players in the world. He took Messi under his wing when he was only young so without dinho would we have the little magician we have today?

David Beckham – Right Midfield

Another member from the class of 92 makes it into our dream XI and how could he not. You haven’t seen curve until you’ve watched Beckham hit a ball. Oh and not to forget the times we all copied his freekick stance or haircut. You know you have even if you won’t admit it.

Lionel Messi – Centre Forward

The little magician has been sublime this year with his goal chipping the quite arrogant Neuer and just ruining the Bilabo’s players lives, oh and did I mention Boateng? Without a doubt this season he has been the best around and deserves a place in our team.

Wayne Rooney – Striker

A debatable one but the Scouse born marksman is only 2 away from becoming England’s all time top goal scorer, he’s right up there at united as well so the stats back up to decision to have him in the team. His workrate is also exceptional. But maybe he can leave the sex with mature women till he retires.
Whether you agree or not that’s our World Decade XI, don’t agree? Leave your team or changes in the comments. Thanks for reading,
