Pep Guardiola SLAMS Kalvin Phillips in brutally honest interview

When Kalvin Phillips signed for Manchester City from Leeds back in July, everyone thought he was going to be the perfect Fernandinho replacement after showing his quality during his time in North Yorkshire.

However, things have not quite gone to plan for the 27-year old who has played just 53 minutes in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side since arriving for £45million.

The only England World Cup representative to not make City’s Carabao Cup squad for their victory over Liverpool earlier in the week, Phillips has since been accused of arriving back to Manchester City “overweight”, by manager Pep Guardiola, banishing claims he was injured.

He’s not injured, he arrived back to us overweight. I don’t know why,” added the Spaniard.

He didn’t arrive in the condition to do training sessions and to play.”

Guardiola’s commission of Phillips is another example of how the Spaniard has reinforced strict rules about player weight since arriving at the Etihad in 2016, after he banned Samir Nasri from training after the Frenchman arrived for preseason overweight six years ago.
