Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was filmed frantically giving instructions to two of his players during yesterday night’s win over RB Leipzig.
Pep’s managerial style is not conventional. If you’ve ever watched the all-access Amazon Prime series starring the Spaniard and his Man City squad, you’ll know just how impassioned and animatic his team talks can be.
We saw further evidence of that as Man City took on RB Leipzig in their Champions League group opening fixture, a game they eventually went on to win 6-3.
Pep was caught on camera in conversation with wingers Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez… and he clearly wasn’t happy with some aspect of their game!
Jack Grealish: ⚽️🅰️
Riyad Mahrez: ⚽️It doesn’t matter how well you’re playing, if you don’t do your defensive duties Pep Guardiola will tell you all about it 😤#UCL pic.twitter.com/f9ZQFxaq4w

Your chances of understanding what Guardiola is saying when he’s speaking at that speed with a Spanish accent are next to zero, but his players will merely have assumed he’s unhappy with something and acted accordingly.
Whatever message Pep was attempting to get across, it worked, with Man City taking all three points in a nine-goal thriller at the Etihad, the perfect way to kick off this season’s European campaign.
