Liverpool started the 2025-26 Premier League campaign on a high note after beating AFC Bournemouth 4-2 at Anfield on Friday night.
Arne Slot admitted after the game that he was emotional to find the tribute Liverpool fans gave to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva ahead of the game, and after the final whistle.
The Reds fans unveiled a mosaic tribute to both Jota and Silva ahead of kick-off, after the Portuguese brothers were killed in a car crash at the start of July.
The former LIverpool striker’s popular chant was sung throughout at Anfield. Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo dedicated their goals to Jota, while Mohamed Salah, who recreated Jota’s baby shark goal celebration, was left in tears after the game.
Jota’s family were present at Anfield for the win over Bournemouth.

Slot said: ” We should talk about this how impressive and powerful this tribute was there today.
“I have been lucky enough to be here and I have heard You’ll never walk alone many times, but today the way they sang was so so powerful and how during the game and at the end of the game the fans were so incredible.
“Normally at 2-2 everyone knows which player I look to at that moment in time.
“I would have loved to bring in Diogo Jota, but I could not for terrible reasons. But tonight the fans and the players did what he did for us many times in the past.”
Slot’s comments blew away fans all over the world.
One fan said: “Slot is the fu*king lad! Wouldn’t want anyone else managing my club. The start of a dynasty!”
Another one added: “Arne slot is the best coach in the Premier League right now – and by a long shot! I really appreciate Jorgen Klopp who knew how to gallantly clear the way and to step down – something that not many coaches in his position would do! Liverpool looks absolutely amazing!”
A third one said: “That Jota mention from Slot just hit hard.”
A fourth fan added: “That’s a terrible feeling as a coach.”
