Jake Paul’s team explain why ‘Tommy Fumbles’ bet is REAL and WILL go ahead

The entourage of Jake Paul has INSISTED that Tommy Fury really will have to change his name if he loses on December 18th.

In the midst of the war of words that preceded the contracts being signed, Jake Paul provided Fury with a number of rather bizarre terms.

Paul agreed to pay the boxer an additional $500k on top of his $1m fee if he were to be victorious when the pair meet in Florida next month.

However, if Fury were to lose, he would have to legally change his surname to ‘Fumbles’ for an entire year.

While, as talkSPORT report, Frank Warren has insisted that there is no such clause in the fight contract, Paul’s team disagree.

“Mr Paul contractually agreed to have his guaranteed purse reduced by $500,000 and paid to Mr Fury by Showtime within two business days of the fight should Jake lose.”

“Quid pro quo, Mr Paul contractually required for Mr Fury to have $500,000 of his purse held back until Mr Fury legally became Mr Fumbles.”

“Mr Fury was afforded 30 days to make the name change.”

“Mr Fury did not agree and desired for the bet to be a handshake.”

“This Saturday at the press conference, the handshake will seal the deal for the world to see. $500,000 or Mr Fumbles.”

It seems like a rather bizarre way of doing business. Fury is certain to demand the extra $500k if he wins, but would he actually change his name if he loses?

Were he contractually obligated to do so, he’d be left with no choice, but we struggle to see why he would honour a handshake for something so humiliating.
