Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will ‘cut ties’ with striker after poor performances✂️

Former Arsenal player, Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the striker failed to impress at Stamford Bridge since arriving in the summer.

It is fair to say that Aubameyang hasn’t had the best of times since moving back to London from Barcelona in the summer. The Gabonese international has only scored once for Chelsea in the league and has looked like a shadow of the player that he once was.

It was considered a risk to bring him in considering his controversial end with Arsenal. Besides his negligence and disobedience off the pitch for the Gunners, Aubameyang was also struggling with his performances on it.

Despite a decent spell at Barcelona, the 33-year-old has shown why Arsenal was right to let him go.

The best example of this was his horrid display against Manchester City in the FA Cup. The striker was a complete passenger for the Blues and was embarrassingly subbed off after being subbed on.

Writing in his Sky Sports column, Merson stated that this is probably the end for Aubameyang.

‘Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was taken off after coming on as a substitute in the first game against Man City and I think he will now be moved on. I think they will cut their ties with him,’ he said.

‘Maybe you can get away with it with a younger player, but in football it’s one of those unwritten rules. It’s a don’t-do.

‘But Potter did it with him at 33 and, for me, I think he’s done.’

Do you think that this is the end of the road for Auba?
