On this day in 2020, Micah Richards couldn’t hold back his thoughts about how he ‘burst onto the scene’ back in 2012.
Richards eulogised about his arrival in senior football during the post-match analysis of Manchester United’s win over Manchester City at Old Trafford three years ago, slipping in his ‘burst onto the scene’ comments while talking about how he won a Premier League with City in 2012.
“I burst onto the scene, didn’t I? I was going to be the next best thing.
“Yeah I won a Premier League which is the best thing you can do, and I got to play for a team that I loved. But I underachieved because sometimes, the hype is too much, so I had to keep my feet on the ground.”
Roy Keane interjected, saying: “Did you really burst onto the scene? Defenders are rarely the ones that burst onto the scene.”
