ON THIS DAY: Bayern Munich put TEN past Arsenal over two legs in the Champions League

On this day six years ago, Bayern beat Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate to dump the Gunners out of the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage.

This clash marks the last time Arsenal were in the Champions League and they were given the run around by a Bayern side who were absolutely scintillating over the two legs.

The first leg at the Allianz Arena looked to be going well as they went in at halftime with the score 1-1, with Alexis Sanchez cancelling out Arjen Robben’s opener, but a Thiago double, coupled with strikes from Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski put the Germans in control for the return leg.

The second leg at the Emirates came on this day six years ago and Arsenal were given hope on 20 minutes when Theo Walcott scored the opener, but a 53rd-minute Laurent Koscielny red card changed the match completely.

Two minutes later, Lewandowski scored a penalty, with Robben turning the match around thirteen minutes later.

The Germans ran riot from there, scoring three more goals in the next 17 minutes via Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal to heap misery on Arsene Wenger’s side.

A day to forget for Arsenal in what ended up being a tough-to-take league season, as they finished just a point outside the top four behind Liverpool in a campaign that saw their London rivals Chelsea take the title.
