Huge Injury Concerns For Manchester United Ahead Of Watford Game

Manchester United are waiting to see whether up to eight players, including Anthony Martial and Michael Carrick, will miss Saturday’s trip to Watford.

United were given another concern when Martial left Wembley on crutches after France’s 2-0 defeat to England on Tuesday.

The £36 million teenager has scored five goals since his move from Monaco but, like Michael Carrick, was hurt on international duty.

“He is in quite a bit of pain,” France manager Didier Deschamps said in his news conference. “I think it is a knock to the top of his foot.”

Vice-captain Carrick suffered an ankle injury during England’s 2-0 defeat to Spain on Friday, leading Roy Hodgson to voice his fears that the 34-year-old had suffered ligament damage.

Chris Smalling, who has been an ever-present in the Premier League this season, played against Spain but missed the France game with a minor knock.

And Marouane Fellaini was withdrawn from the Belgium squad with the unspecified injury that forced him to miss United’s last game, a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Young striker James Wilson, who has not featured since October’s Capital One Cup exit to Middlesbrough, has also been sidelined, along with defender Paddy McNair, who suffered an abdominal strain playing for Northern Ireland last month.

United will definitely be without left-back Luke Shaw, who is recovering from the broken leg he sustained against PSV Eindhoven in September.

And the versatile Antonio Valencia, who has undergone foot surgery, is another long-term absentee.
