The Dane spent eight and a half years at Anfield between 2006 and 2014 after leaving boyhood club Brondby to join up with Rafael Benitez’s squad.

He played 232 times for Liverpool in total and earned a League Cup winners’ medal in 2012, though his tally of appearances may have been higher were it not for a series of unfortunate injury problems.

Agger returned to Brondby in 2014 but, after two years back with the Danish Superliga club, he has now elected to call time on his playing career.
