Newcastle United are reportedly keen on kicking off their summer with a £50m acquisition from Manchester City.
The Magpies had a rather extraordinary second half of the season under Eddie Howe to steer themselves clear of relegation and leave them well-positioned to build this summer.
Considering they are now the richest club on the planet, you’d expect them to invest heavily in the squad this summer in order to continue their ascent up the Premier League table.
According to The Sun, Manchester City defender Nathan Ake is one player who Howe has identified as a target. The pair worked together during their time at AFC Bournemouth.
Despite Ake merely being a squad player at the Etihad, there doesn’t appear to be much chance of the champions allowing him to leave the club in a cut-price deal this summer.
Instead, as per The Sun, Pep Guardiola’s men are understood to be demanding a rather steep £50m fee in exchange for the Dutch international, a figure that Newcastle can afford.
The Geordies are thought to be keen to get this deal over the line as soon as possible, so they may well just bite the bullet and pay. Let’s see how this one pans out…
