Gary Neville joked that Manchester City are FINISHED after their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on the opening day of the new Premier League season.
The Premier League champions were defeated 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the worse possible start to their title defence.
Pep Guardiola was not able to field a full-strength side, nor does he have a centre-forward he can rely on within his ranks. The initial signs are not particularly promising.
Still, Man City have a wealth of talent at their disposal, with the transfer market still open. You’d expect them to bounce back in the coming weeks.
Gary Neville will be hoping that they don’t, though. He was revelling in City’s loss on Sunday afternoon, joking post-match that they are “finished!”
🗣 @GNev2: “They’re finished!”
🗣 @MicahRichards: “Finished? Behave yourself! Utd have won one game. You’re supposed to be in co-comms, what are you doing down here?”
🗣 @GNev2: “I just came down because you lost!”

MORE: Further concern for Manchester City as midfielder suffers shoulder injury during defeat to Tottenham
It is, of course, a tongue in cheek comment from Neville, but it was enough to get City fan Richards riled up, which was the desired effect, no doubt.
Even Richards won’t be able to deny, though, that City will struggle unless they’re able to get a top striker through the door over the next two weeks.
Ferran Torres cannot play that role long-term, with Gabriel Jesus clearly being deemed not good enough to do it on a weekly basis.
It’s a matter that needs addressing.
