Jose Mourinho plotting attempt to bring Manchester United prospect to AS Roma

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on bringing a Manchester United prospect to AS Roma.

Mourinho has already demonstrated his willingness to bring British talent to Serie A, having splashed out on Chelsea academy product Tammy Abraham over the summer.

Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also being linked with a January move to the Stadio Olimpico, with an initial loan with an option to buy reportedly being discussed.

According to The Sun, Charlie Wellens, 19, is next up on Mourinho’s shopping list. AS Roma are thought to be keen on making a move for the Salford-born prospect.

As is mentioned in the report, it was Mourinho who drafted Wellens into the first-team setup during his time at Old Trafford. He is thought to be keen on a reunion in Rome.

It remains to be seen to what extent Man United would wish to be compensated for Wellens’ departure, but it’s hard to imagine Mourinho being made to break the bank.

Having Mourinho at Roma could be an excellent avenue for English talent to get first-team experience abroad. Time will tell if that’s a proposition that’d interest Wellens.
