MLS Players that are giving good results in the US National Team

The USMNT managed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar recently after finishing third in the FIFA World Cup CONCACAF qualifying group behind Canada and Mexico.

Nonetheless, they would not care one iota as it meant that they would be able to return to the major finals for the first time since the 2014 edition, after being embarrassed during the qualification process for the 2018 event and subsequently missing out.

The USMNT may be confident in navigating their FIFA World Cup Group

As we know, the USMNT has been placed in Group B alongside England, Iran, and either Ukraine, Scotland or Wales depending on how the delayed European playoff turns out, however the Stars and Stripes will have an air of confidence about their chances of qualifying and progressing from the group stage and into the knockout stage.

Regardless, they are going to need to be ready in order to do so, and with a friendly against Morocco, and a handful of CONCACAF fixtures against Grenada and El Salvador to come in June, the team will be hoping that their best players will all be ready to take to the field by the time the winter comes and the action gets underway in Qatar.

Star players are going to need to be at their very best

But which of the players who currently represent the USMNT are currently playing well at the club level and will be expected by head coach Gregg Berhalter to be ready to help the team out in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup?

Let’s take a look at some of the biggest stars currently on the team and highlight what they are doing around the world and why they will be crucial for the National Team this winter.

Christian Pulisic

When thinking of the USMNT, there is one player that will immediately spring to mind and is argued to be the best player the team has: Christian Pulisic.

Indeed, known as “Captain America”, the attacker is currently playing for Chelsea and appears to be a very important squad player for Thomas Tuchel’s side, although the winger might want to get more time on the field rather than having to come off the bench.

Nonetheless, he has shown his importance to both club and country in recent months, with the American netting the winner against West Ham United at the weekend to keep the Blues’ grip on third in the Premier League as tight as possible with a dramatic late effort, whilst he also netted a hat-trick for The Yanks in their 5-1 win against Panama that ultimately sealed the team’s qualification to the upcoming FIFA World Cup Finals.

Pulisic will want to continue to perform, and perhaps get more minutes on the field for Chelsea, ahead of the winter event, whilst Berhalter will want to ensure that the 23-year-old’s struggles with injuries are behind him and do not rear their ugly head anywhere near the trip to Qatar.

Aaron Long

A player who has only recently started to represent the USMNT regularly, Aaron Long is a player that New York Red Bulls fans will know a lot about and would argue will be a crucial player for Berhalter’s side in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Indeed, the center-back is the current captain of the MLS side and an ever-present in Gerhard Struber’s team, with the 29-year-old continuing to help his team with their quest to achieve success in the league.

His form has been exceptional in the early stages of the 2022 MLS season, with the team being able to pick up four wins and two draws from their first 8 games of the campaign, with just five goals having been conceded as he has helped his club to keep three clean sheets, including in the last two matches to have been played.

Naturally, this has created some confidence amongst fans about their chances of achieving success in the MLS this season, with some already thinking about wagering as sports betting has gone live in the state of New York very recently.

The PointsBet Sportsbook for New Yorkers soccer fans has been made available to utilize and it has proven to be an exceptional option for followers of the NYRB, as they have been able to find some rather lucrative markets and odds available.

Long has been a real influence on that, as he has helped the team to remain as solid as possible and he is a must for Berhalter’s side this winter if he continues to perform at the current trajectory that is being experienced

Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams is another top USMNT talent and one that many will immediately think of as a player that can have a positive impact on Berhalter’s side presently and in the near future. Naturally, there will be a lot of excitement about what he can provide, as he is only 23-years-old, too.

The defensive midfielder, who currently plays in Germany for RB Leipzig, has proven that he is capable of playing in big games despite his young age and has proven he can hang with some of the best in Europe on the football field.

Whether it be in the Bundesliga, or in European competition, Adams has been able to have an impact on the way his team plays. He will be participating in the UEFA Europa League semifinals this season, as Leipzig goes up against Glasgow Rangers for a place in the Final, and that experience could give him a way of preparing for the FIFA World Cup that will take place just a few short months later.

Not prolific by any means, however he can be an important player in front of Berthaler’s defense and an influential figure in the dressing room; something he clearly has already shown he can do as he has been named the USMNT captain on a couple of occasions despite still being extremely young.

Plenty of talent to choose from

It could be argued that the USMNT has been blessed with an array of talent at the moment and one that leaves the team in a better position to challenge in major finals than ever before. Of course, we have not even mentioned the likes of Gio Renya, Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah, Sergino Dest, or even the exciting Yunus Musah!

If each of these players performs as well as they can on the football field, who knows what the Stars and Stripes might achieve this winter?!
