Brendan Irvine got Ireland off to a winning start at the World Championships in Doha.
The Belfastman beat Nico Hernandez of the USA in their Light-flyweight contest – taking all three rounds for a unanimous decision that sets-up a last-16 contest against a Turkish opponent.
However, there was disappointment for Light Welterweight Dean Walsh who lost a split decision to Venezuela’s Luis Dian Arcon.
Middleweight Michael O’Reilly will also be in action later today in Qatar.
