Lionel Messi might be the greatest player ever to play the game of football, but he’s still only human, and proved it during PSG’s stalemate with Club Brugge last night.
Much was said in the build-up to the game about PSG and how exciting it’d be to see them in action against minnows Club Brugge. It’s the first time Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have all started a game together.
However, barring Ander Herrera’s goal on the quarter of an hour mark, which was assisted by Mbappe, what was predicted to be one of the most potent front threes in football history hardly had a sniff.
Messi did have one good chance to change the game, volleying towards goal after a strong run from Nuno Mendes down the left-hand side. Unfortunately for the Argentine, he made a meal of it…
If Messi is finishing as poorly as that, Mauricio Pochettino will have been well aware that it was simply not PSG’s night. They’re going to have to do A LOT better than that if they want to win the Champions League.
PSG have a history of falling short in the competition – they’ve never won it – but surely they can’t do so once again while having Messi, Mbappe and Neymar leading the line… can they?
