(Video) Cheeky Paul Merson comment sums up Dele Alli’s struggles at Tottenham

A comment made by Paul Merson on Sky Sports News this afternoon summed up Dele Alli’s current situation at Tottenham Hotspur.

Alli was previously ranked among the most promising young English players and was a fully-fledged England international in his early 20s. However, not all has gone to plan for the former MK Dons midfielder.

After his form took a drastic nosedive, Spurs fans have been waiting patiently for the best version of Dele Alli to return. Under various different managerial regimes, he has never returned.

Antonio Conte is the latest to take a punt at bringing Alli back to his best – and he’s struggling to do so, despite the good performance he put in against Liverpool last month.

Alli didn’t play a minute for Tottenham against Watford on Saturday afternoon, despite Spurs chasing the winning goal deep into injury time. Sky Sports News’ Paul Merson joked that he had a better chance of getting a cameo than Alli did…

And that sums it up, really. Alli has been unable to put together a string of positive performances for a number of years. Even the most avid Dele Alli fan among the Tottenham fanbase but now concede that it’s time for him to move on.
