Chelsea vs Liverpool loser is OUT of the Premier League title race, claims Paul Merson

Paul Merson has revealed his belief that the loser of Chelsea vs Liverpool is “completely and utterly” out of the Premier League title race.

This season was billed as a three-way battle for the Premier League crown between Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Unfortunately, it threatens to be done and dusted relatively early on in the season.

City extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points with their dramatic victory over Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, leaving both Chelsea and Liverpool with some serious catching up to do.

Considering at least one of the two are guaranteed to drop points as they meet at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, Pep Guardiola could hardly have dreamt up a more idealistic scenario than the one he finds himself in.

The trophy could be heading back to the Etihad regardless, but as per Paul Merson, speaking on Sky Sports News on Saturday, whoever loses tomorrow is “completely and utterly” out of the race for the title.

It’s hard to argue with Merse. City have been so astoundingly consistent this campaign that it’s hard to imagine them allowing their title rivals to gain ground on them, especially considering they still have to play them both.

Whoever it may be out of Chelsea or Liverpool that fail to get three points on the board tomorrow afternoon can well and truly count themselves out of the running to be Premier League champions.
