Benjamin Mendy: Second man arrested in connection with rape investigation into Manchester City defender

A second man has been charged in connection with the rape investigation into Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, as is reported by The Sun.

Man City revealed that they had suspended left-back Mendy pending the completion of legal proceedings. News later filtered out, as is included in the aforementioned report, that the French World Cup winner had been charged with four counts of rape.

The Sun report that Louis Saha Matturie, who has been referred to as Mendy’s ‘runner’ has also been charged with four counts of rape and has had his application for bail rejected. Both men remain in custody.

The report notes that Mendy was originally arrested in November 2020 following allegations of sexual assault. He was later released before being re-arrested in August 2021, when he was charged with the offences.

The Sun note that Mendy is also accused of an alleged rape on a teenager at a party in his £5m mansion while out on bail following the initial arrest. He is due to appear at Chester crown court on 10 September.
