Martin O’Neill believes that Brian Clough would have been a great success as a manager in today’s Premier League.

Clough won two first-division titles in his managerial career and took Nottingham Forest to European glory in 1978/79 and 1979/80, cementing his status to this day as one of the country’s greatest ever managers and O’Neill thinks that he would be a top manager in today’s game.

I absolutely think he could have managed in the Premier League. Clough was a really intelligent man, smart and with it.

“He knew about players, knew about other managers. He also knew about the changes that were going on in the league during his time coaching.

He would have been able to adapt and I might even say Bill Shankly would have been a success as well.”

Do you think Clough would have made it in today’s game? With his success guiding the likes of Derby and Nottingham Forest to dizzying heights, it’s certainly not a bad shout.
