Dimitar Berbatov has backed his old teammate to one day get the Manchester United job despite his recent sacking from Birmingham City.
Wayne Rooney took over at the Championship club in October after a spell in the MLS managing DC United.
Birmingham City were 6th in the Championship when the English man took over but after two months in charge, they dropped all the way down to 20th.
The club then decided to sack Rooney earlier this week but speaking to Betfair, former teammate Berbatov backed him to one day manage United.
“Birmingham are near the bottom of the table and they have big ambitions, so it’s led to the decision to sack Wazza.” He said.
“It’s a pity. I sympathise with him because I know he wants to be a manager and one day maybe he’ll be manager of Man United – I still stick to that.”

Sadly Mr Rooney was sadly lacking in personal interaction skills. He did not engage with the fans, and had no idea how to get the best out of players of lesser ability than the technical game he was professing they could
play. He has much to learn.
Rooney needs to spend some time watching others do the job he wants, go spend time with foreign teams just to learn his trade, go to Spain, Germany,Italy and see how they operate, learn from the best, at Birmingham he never adhered himself to the players or the fans, his style just doesn’t work so I think he needs to learn how to adapt
