Man United penalty shootout flop David de Gea could be discarded in exchange deal for star

Manchester United are interested in signing Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid this summer – and could include David de Gea in the deal, according to The Sun.

Oblak, one of the greatest goalkeepers on the planet, recently won La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

While there is no obvious reason as to why he would depart the Wanda Metropolitano, The Sun believe that Man United are set to try their luck this summer.

The report notes that David de Gea, who cost the Red Devils in the Europa League final, could be offered back to his former side as a makeweight in the deal.

David de Gea misses the crucial penalty in the Europa League final

de Gea has been ousted from the Man United starting eleven by academy graduate Dean Henderson, who probably ought to have been given the nod for the shootout on Wednesday night.

Having failed to save any of Villarreal’s 11 penalties, and then going on to miss the crucial spot-kick, de Gea’s stock at Old Trafford has never been as low as it is right now.

If The Sun are correct and Man United are prepared to chuck him into a potential deal for Oblak, merely as a sweetener for Atleti, it would be a sad way to end his Red Devils career.
