Manchester United are reportedly at the front of the queue to sign Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz is considered one of the most promising young players in German football, the kind which would ordinarily have already agreed to sign for Bayern Munich by now.
However, Kai Havertz’s move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020 was a sign that the tides are turning. The financial riches outside of the Bundesliga are hurting Bayern’s chances of maintaining their monopoly over German talent.
Manchester United appear keen on replicating what Chelsea achieved with Havertz by signing a player who has been dubbed ‘the new Kai Havertz’ in his native Germany.

According to The Sun, Man United are leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who is valued in the region of £60m. Ralf Rangnick’s influence at Old Trafford is already having the desired effect.
Signing Wirtz ahead of their fellow European heavyweights would be a real coup for Man United and a statement of their intentions to build a winning team for the future.
Time will tell whether the move materialises, but things are looking good.
