Manchester United are set to pursue a holding midfielder in the January transfer window, according to Manchester Evening News.

Further investment is required in the squad in order to close the gap with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, with their midfield being a glaringly obvious weak point, all due respect to the so-called ‘McFred’ pairing in the pivot.

The club ARE reportedly prepared to make that necessary investment as soon as the January transfer window, with Manchester Evening News claiming that Ralf Rangnick has been given the green light to bring in a new midfielder.
