Manchester City are banking cash to fund their summer pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, according to Manchester Evening News.
Much of the summer transfer window was dominated by reports linking Man City with a move for Harry Kane. Pep Guardiola made no secret of the Premier League champions’ desire to sign Tottenham’s talisman.
However, after Daniel Levy stood firm on his valuation of the England skipper, he remained in North London, leaving Man City with just Gabriel Jesus (and occasionally Ferran Torres) to lead the line.
Now, as is mentioned in the report by M.E.N, Torres is heading to Barcelona in a deal worth an estimated £55m. That leaves City with cash to spend and a glaringly obvious gap in the squad upfront.

Yet, Guardiola has claimed that Man City will NOT be signing a striker in January. It doesn’t add up, unless you factor in their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who is expected to be on the move in the summer.
According to M.E.N, the sale of Torres, among others, is part of City’s strategy to financially prepare themselves for the inevitable scrap over securing Haaland’s services.
Time will tell whether their decisions will: A.) cost them the Premier League title, B.) see them eventually land Haaland. Txiki Begiristain will be crossing his fingers that his gamble pays off…
