Romelu Lukaku reveals he told Champions League winner ‘to go to Chelsea’

Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he told Kai Havertz to sign for Chelsea after a Europa League clash between Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

Lukaku’s return to Chelsea was officially announced on Thursday, but the Belgian had to spend a period in quarantine before he was allowed to head to the Cobham training ground.

With his five-day isolation ending on Monday, the striker headed down to the Chelsea training facilities to shoot some media for the club’s social channels.

During his first interview back at Chelsea, Lukaku revealed that he told Kai Havertz to sign for Chelsea prior to his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

You’d have to ask Havertz if Lukaku’s words had any bearing on his decision, but if they did, he’s inadvertently won Chelsea the Champions League.

You’ll recall that Havertz scored the only goal of the game as Chelsea defeated Manchester City in Porto. If not for Lukaku, he may not have been on the pitch that night.

Lukaku will be hoping to provide equally iconic moments during his time at Chelsea – and who’d bet against him doing so under the stewardship of Thomas Tuchel?
