Ex-Man United boss Louis Van Gaal taken to hospital after falling off his bicycle

Former Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is wheelchair-bound after falling off his bicycle.

Van Gaal enjoyed a period as Man United manager in the immediate post-Fergie era. The experienced Dutchman was drafted in to steady the ship, which he did, to an extent.

After spending five years ‘retired’ following his departure from Old Trafford, Van Gaal was approached to take the Netherlands job for the third time, a proposal which he accepted.

While on international duty with the Dutch team, as is reported by The Sun, Van Gaal fell from his bike and ended up in hospital. He is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries, thankfully.

That said, he is 70-years-old and is understood to be using a wheelchair for transport at current. A fall at that age can leave you battered and beaten, as it appears to have done so in this case.

The report notes that Van Gaal had a hip replacement a few years back and is sore in that region. That appears to be the main reason for him being off his feet at current.

Knowing him, he won’t allow his accident to have any bearing on his ability to manage the Dutch team as they face Norway in a pivotal World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday night.
