Liverpool are reportedly plotting an ambitious move for Barcelona prodigy Gavi.
Gavi is regarded alongside Pedri as the future of Barcelona’s midfield. He’s only 17-years-old, born in 2004, but has already shown the capability to be a key factor for the Catalan giants both now and in the future.
The last thing that Xavi will want, as he attempts to rebuild Barca from the ashes, is to lose a player of his quality. However, according to local publication SPORT, there is a legitimate possibility he could depart this summer.
The report claims that Liverpool are ready to pounce on the stalling contract negotiations between Gavi’s camp and Barcelona by paying his €50m release clause and attempting to tempt him to Anfield.
Whether Gavi would consider a move away from Barcelona, his boyhood club, is unclear at this point in time, but Jurgen Klopp’s willingness to spend €50m on a teenager could be reason enough to make the move.
Of course, this report could merely be a ploy from Gavi’s camp to force Barca into accelerating negotiations, or Liverpool might actually be in the mix. Either way, things ought to become clear in the coming weeks.
